The golden framework is painted in beautiful iridescent gold paint and ink and captures the beautiful and timeless decoration of Big Ben's clock face.
The butterflies are all cut and painted over a number of sittings to build pigment, shading and variation. In total there are 682 individually painted butterflies.
You will notice different things about this artwork through different lights and times of the day. When in evening light or low lamp light the gold framework will appear more prominent with a gentle reflectiveness. The raised wings of the butterflies cast beautiful delicate shadows.
This artwork is protected by a custom made deep box frame with perspex.
