These small handmade 3D painted butterfly box contains individually painted watercolour butterflies in a six inch frame. Each piece is unique with small variations to ensure it is a one off piece of art.
Every butterfly differs in its shape, size and shade to create a unique artwork. With their raised wings these butterflies cast beautiful shadows and appear to be flying from their background.
I carefully cut the butterflies in thick artist grade watercolour paper and individually paint each butterfly in rich hues of liquid watercolour paint. Pink, red and magenta - all shades come together to create this vibrant beautiful artwork.
I create these small pieces in two compositions - sweeping butterflies in an arc formation and a bouquet of butterflies flying up and outwards.
